I am new to Keat's works but I very much enjoy them.

I would like to know what your favorite poems, odes, and plays so that I can explore more of his stuff.

Favorite Poem

Postby MonroeDoctrine » Sat Apr 10, 2004 1:58 am

One of my favorites is On Seeing The Elgin Marbles.
The historical tragety of the British Empire stealing great art from other countries places misfortune upon us however, the joy of Keats writing a poetry regarding this great art cancels out the evil of the "Athenian Marbles" being stolen.

The first lines of the poem create tears in my eyes for this line expresses the struggle that every valuable artist and human being must confront:

My spirit is too weak---mortality weighs
heavily on me like unwilling sleep.

I really liked Ode to Psyche.
"I love mankind, it's people I can't stand."
-Linus van Pelt; Peanuts

"I have yet to see proof of my own mortality."
