Hi! My name is Mike, I'm doing a research paper on the themes and inspirations of the poetry of Keats, so I need to conduct a short interview with somebody who knows about keats. Please answer these few questions in whatever way you see fit.
1) What are three words that you feel best describe Keats's poetry?
2) How was Keats's poetry influenced by his life?
3) What in Keats's life were his biggest influences?
4) What are some of the main recurring themes of Keats's poetry?
5) How has Keats's poetry influenced your life?

Thank you very much for helping me with my paper. I appreciate it.

I am not an authority on Keats but I hope this helps. He died when he was 25 and he knew he was going to die (he had medical training). A lot of people around him died that he loved. I would say that his knowing he was going to die lit in him a sense of urgency. I do not think that this governed all of his poetry but it certainly colored some of it. I would describe his poetry as genuine and insightful. Good luck with your paper. I hope some more people respond to your thread, there are some very intelligent people on this site.

Welcome to the Keats BB:) - here's my answers. Sorry they're short but it's quite late at night.

1. Timeless, profound, perceptive

2. His life was his poetry and his poetry reflected that life.

3. His reading of poetry, history, philosophy and politics; his medical studies, his family, friends, and lovers,

4. Melancholy, joy, love, life, death, art etc...

5. In many ways - He inspired me in my poetry, made me a deeper thinking, more considerate person, more emotonally susceptible, more of a dreamer even than I was before

I think this subject has been most brilliantly covered in the chapter towards the end of Robert Graves' book The White Goddess where he discusses the very key of Keats' inspiration. I think he bases his finding on the stanzas of 'La belle dame sans merci.'
