translations BY and FROM Keats please~

Postby Minaloushe » Wed Jun 02, 2010 5:03 am

Dear all, I'm at the initial stage of an idea. Could you please tell me any poem translated by Keats from Latin, Greek, French or any other lauguage? If this might be a too narrow path, could you tell me then: is there any famous poet or writer that has translated Keats to other European languages?
The idea came from a thesis I read on Charles Bodelaire's translation of Edgar Allan Poe which inspired me a lot. So I really hope this idea could work for my research too  Thanks very much!!!

The only real true translation Keats made was his translation of a sonnet by the French poet Ronsard:

Latin, he knew, and indeed at school made a translation of The Aeneid, which has sadly been lost to history. Greek Keats hadn't got round to learning.

As for the reverse, poets who have translated Keats, I have no idea to be honest, but I know his work has been translated into French and Italian, but that's all I know for sure.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks a lot for your response! Well, that's pretty much what I've found. I may go on searching on the French line. If you find anything concerning my topic, would you please be so kind to paste it here:)
