Jack Daniels. . .yich--that stuff tastes gross. My Dad loves it, too. (Must truly be a "guy" thing) Now a well-made martini--not a *dry* one, mind you, but one of the fruity (or chocolate) varieties. . .that's a different story.

Man, I'm plastered after two martini's. . .

My brother Dan spent a little time in Ireland and he was amazed at how much people could put away. I was amazed by that ability when I was in England. Quite a few functional alcoholics out in those parts. I'm sure we have more than a few in the U.S.--but it seems to be almost an art in the British Isles.

That's one of the classic stereotypes in Gothic novels isn't it: the reclusive writer, in his smoking jacket, sitting in front of a roaring fireplace with a large glass of brandy in his hand, with a tempestuous storm in the background, slowly going insane as his novel becomes reality...supposedly the legend is based on/dedicated to a depiction of Edgar Allan Poe who turned alcoholic in his later years.
Don't know what inspired me to post this...must be Monday morning melancholia in full swing.
