Aparting

Aparting

What is a farewell,
A leave-taking
Without the one
Necessary act,
The dénouement ?

We've been aparting
For so long now the
Curtain's threadbare
Worn by the friction
Of desperate encores.

To exit is small death,
Is retreat, and failure
Born from indecision's
Barren womb, beget
Of the bitch cowardice:

A monstrous labour.
Jupiter Stator, that god
Of procrastination
Bound my tongue
While Venus gave all

To black-armed Vulcan;
Old withered craftsman
Bent with toil, impotent,
And shameful the lust
Of an old man's desire.

Ah Venus, ill-betrothed
Such great beauty soiled,
Being mired by the lewd
Cravings of wasted age
Would you not have it so?

I talk of myth made real,
A tragedy too close
Tearing to very rags
My heart, breaking
Now as we're aparting.

That's very sad and quite powerful
John....you did not live to see-
who we are because of what you left,
what it is we are in what we make of you.

Sad and beautifully rendered--close knit metaphors that are purposeful and so well placed--your signature style...thank you always for sharing...

I love these lines:

To exit is small death,
Is retreat, and failure
Born from indecision's
Barren womb, beget
Of the bitch cowardice:

So raw and feeling...
"I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the heart's affections and the Truth of Imagination."
