Beat back the tide

Beat back the tide

Beat back the tide
Let the waves part.
Uncover the wreck
Of a sunken heart.

Beat back the tide
Dig up the shoals:
Buried the hopes
Of long lost souls.

Beat back the tide
Scour the rock pools
Fish the hollows
For love that cools.

Beat back the tide
Comb the wet sand
Looking for shells
Of vanished land.

Beat back the tide
An hour or more
Uncovers truth
Of forgotten lore.

Beat back the tide
Let the waves part.
Uncover the wreck
Of a sunken heart.

Wonderful poem, Saturn!! How I wish I could write poetry!
have I your permission to study this poem when my students begin their poetry unit?

You flatter me too much Ennis

I'd be honoured, though I'm not sure what could be learned by studying it

Oh, Saturn, never underestimate the "inferential" powers of today's young teens!! You'd be surprised! Even if they are (way) off the mark, they're thinking about poetry!!! And what more can we ask of them?? You've got to give them credit for trying, and they certainly do try!
