Oedipus

Oedipus

Oedipus tearing his sight
In horror, knew the truth,
And truth made him blind.
Sense is feeling...feeling,
Groping in disgust, scree
And dust soaked scalding
Tears of blackness from
An open case. Homeless
And forever unsensed
But plucked by a bitterness
Greater than the veil that
Had darkened all his days.

King of crows and choughs,
Your destiny fulfilled, see
Now the tricks of the gods
And eat humility off tables
Where beggars grant a stool.

I like this Saturn, your usual high standard.
Maybe normal service has been resumed!

Take care.

Why thank you Marwood, it was partly inspired by a trip to the theatre to see the wonderful Derek Jacobi in King Lear, itself indebted to Sophocles' Theban plays.

I went to see King Lear a couple of months ago at Stratford, it was on at the courtyard theatre as the R S C theatre
was being refurbished. I really enjoyed it, no famous actors but brilliantly done.
Take care.
