Ode to the Lightsaber

Yes, this is my ode that I wrote for English class. Yes, I'm a total nerd...I wrote my poem about Star Wars. I really like it because I understand it...but I'm also a huge Star Wars fan. There are many hidden references to Star Wars in the poem. And here it is:

I hold the peaceful hilt within my hands.
It’s cold, and dull, and scratched, and marred.
Yet knowledge will shine when the Order stands
Again, like bright, warm light from zero starred.
The blaze of truth makes shadow gone and storms serene.
With hope restored once more, faith is not lost.
So both sides soon will be in harmony.
Grand son of suns will need the blade so keen
That fell from chosen hands. Such cost!
But in the Force true death will never be.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. But I challenge you (if you know Star Wars at all) to see if you can find anything.

Hidden references? You mean it isn't obvious? How could anyone miss them? I should have known you were going to write about Star Wars. You should shock everyone one day and do something Star Trek related, or something... Maybe not, it would ruin your aura. Yes, I said aura.

About time you got on by the way. How many of us are on here anyway?

Not members in general, just the IBers.

Heh, yes there are several hidden ones. If you can tell me which ones you found, I can tell you which ones are still there. But then again, perhaps you did find them all? Maybe, maybe not. We may never know and I may just ramble off into nothingness as I talk about nothing in a long and unending run-on sentence........

Give me a number and I'll see how many I can pick out.

I love this line by the way: "Grand son of suns will need the blade so keen "
Son of Suns... That has Star Wars written all over it.

Thank you, I like that line as well. The "Son of Suns" is from the Chosen One prophecy:

"…And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as THE SON OF THE SUNS."

As we all know Anakin Skywalker is the Chosen One. But that line in my poem can have two possible interpretations (at least that I see). The first being a reference to Luke, as he is the son of Anakin (grand describing how big and important Luke is). Luke also used Anakin's lightsaber in the beginning. The second interpretation would be that the line references Jacen Solo (this was brought to my attention by Mrs. Croy's husband). Jacen is Anakin's grandson and he...well I can't say much but he's got a lot going on in the Star Wars novels right now. So I see it as meaning both.
...I love how I'm analyzing my own poem...it makes me laugh. Wait, what makes me laugh even more is that I keep discovering more that I hadn't seen when I wrote it...ah amazing. For this reason, I cannot give you a definite number of how many SW references there are cause I keep finding more! hehe

True, I had a feeling you might have put more in there than you ment to. Either way you did a wonderful job, if I'm not mistaken you had some iambic meter going on in the beginning but either I got lost and messed up or you didn't realize you were using it.

Did you post on turnitin yet?

Thank you very much, you also did a very good job. I did try to keep it iambic the majority of the time.

And, yes I did post on turnitn, if you meant for the discussion topic.

Saturn,

Excellent challenge....Jediace, I formally challenge you to construct a sonnet or ode in the syntax of Yoda. I promise to fully analyze/annotate the poem to the best of my ability when you've finished! :)

Uh oh...looks like it's on. I'll take you both up on the challenge but it won't happen immediately. As soon as I get it done, I'll post it here and it'll be (hopefully) as deep (to me) as my last one haha.

You guys are hillarious! I love Star Wars, too, and would love to see more poems :) I have a brown long-haired cat named, what else but. . .Chewbacca. We call him Chewie. (So I guess that tells you how much of a fan I am!) I must admit, though, I'm a fan of the sequals (the first 3 movies)--I'm not a fan of the prequals--except for the fact that Ewan McGreggor is one of my favorite actors and he looks terribly hot in a beard and Jedi robes ;), I would probably have never watched the prequals.
