Ode to Ambition

You stood there rousing my most cherished dreams;
With obvious zeal to aid their passing,
Your airy dress: so new, with pallid seams;
Lit your unawareness in amassing
Those aspirations of my eager heart,
And helping, though at first they seemed absurd;
As your loyal steed lifted my spirits,
When we found ourselves merely at the start
Of the longest day ever to be heard
On this turning sphere of foreboding bits.

Do not flee so quickly, my pale ally,
I rely on your support and power;
Shelter me from the beating sun of sky:
Brutal tyrant of this midday hour.
Together we shall overcome our grieves,
For your fragile skirt is now fairly frayed;
Whilst knowledge gained escorts us through the day,
As we plan to ascend this orb of leaves
From which with wings created through your aid
We will spring forth into our skyward way.

Dreary nightfall is steadily nearing,
Soon I must depart to my hoary bed.
These ideas I have been sadly fearing
Are visions of your slumber, in my head.
Many trammels endlessly block our path
Of the breezy trip we now aim to take.
Your once-alluring light soon will be old,
Fiercely darkened from evening’s icy wrath;
The skull’s mouth, from which slithers the green snake
Will foreshadow this dark; silver and cold.

I tried to have allusions to the five Great Odes...but I don't know if that worked out... :shock:
