Hammocks

October's scentless apprentice,
The dank gauze unbidden lies
Like consternation on the face
Of the new month's morning.

Tramelled, nestled in trees
Are shown the hammocks,
The white blanketed traps;
Invisible, unsprung devices

Unvieled by the first dews
Of Autumn's dull handiwork.
Dawn snails glisten a trail,
Tracing the season's creep,

While hearty, hard evergreens
And the shivering deciduous
Grab their skirts to hide the
Coming nakedness of Winter.
______________
"Oh what a misery it is to have an intellect in splints".
