The Wayfarer

Postby jackdevon8 » Thu Mar 02, 2017 3:36 am

One damp-chilled morn I ventured out

along a country lane;

a misty fog enswirled about

to match my troubled brain.

Shivering, and quite stunned,

I beheld a leafless tree--

glimmering like a mighty sun

carved from masonry.

It offered no protection

to this unschooled man,

but a spidery confection--

an ornate, bejewelled fan.

The spray created droplets

that clung to every bough--

sparkling, rolling rivulets,

like diadems for crowns.

Years later I recalled this tree

off that ancient Yorkshire lane;

its beauty, how enthrallingly,

transfixed me in the rain!

So once when in a trying time,

I sought what I had felt--

contentment from a sight, sublime,

before fateful cards were dealt.

I knew not when, I knew not how

my graceful friend met its demise,

but on the spot I made a vow

to embrace the next sunrise.

I'd purge my soul of churning seas,

keep a spark within my heart--

encouraged by the burning memory

of a tree less bark than art.

Hey thanks for the contribution Jack, I have my own 'vow tree' from many years past, I can wholly relate to this.

Enjoyed this, Jack

I'm in the process of finishing a painting titled, The Kissing Tree. Very reminiscent. :)
