Bedfellows (a song)

*To the tune of Bob Dylan’s “If you see her, say hello”*

I take my pain for granted;
That you were never there
That when all I ever wanted
Was for you to let me care,
To take your wounded arms
In mine, safe from any harms.

We never were bedfellows
Or wrapped each other tight
And my sorrow never mellows
Morning, noon and night.
Your smile it still is with me,
Though my eyes can never see.

Then in dreams you do appear,
To this cold and lonely bed,
Untroubled many a long year:
My wretched sleep is fed
With a forlorn, painful thought:
That tears, and love are fought.
