You kissed me like a starvelling
Like a famine, you ate me right up
Then left me, pre-planned like a
Demolition job; or maybe it came
Of a sudden, like glacier collapse.

I grabbed your cold hand, like a
Feverish patient burning up and
In need of an ice bath. The calm
Between us, the usual quietude
Was the footprint before waves.

I exist now, a threadbare, cold
Beggar without even the voice
To call for my own relief: Rags
And seams of love clothe me;
Nothing to cover a holed heart.
