On the Problems of Writing Poetry on a Hillside in Summer

Mistle thrushes in thistles nestle
Corncrakes croon in minor modulation
My sun-seared senses now sense what’s so special
About lush and lusty alliteration

Assonance abounds in sensual sonority
Descending and sending dissenting scents
Purpose proposes and prior priority
Swirls and swells and tells of intent

Wandering, pondering, squandering time
Searching, researching and re-searching that rhyme
Meter and matter and function and form
Is this from what poetry is born?

What shall I write? It’s already written
The curlew’s loose and the red kite’s on air
The kingfisher’s fishing and abroad is the bittern
How can I add to what’s already there?

Lovely poem! I like the alliteration throughout and the summery feel of the whole. I also like your titles. The irony of this one is great. :D Good stuff!

Thanks DKS and AsphodelElysium for your kind words

I like things ironic
And I like gin and tonic
I like chats telephonic
And filters subsonic
Hope that’s not too Byronic!

That's what this forum needs - some humours and witty poems to balance out all my po-faced miserablist rants :(

Thanks for brightening things up a bit.
