Another Poem

What Does it Mean To Be A Poet?

I enjoy seeing the empiricist
attempting to use his stupid logic!
I laugh at the definitions and magic
employed by his mind. A mind of thick mist.

Thank God the poet shall transcend this fool and shall embrace true immortality.

That's an interesting thought, but should we be so certain that a/ a poet is by definition not a fool and that b/ all poetry by its very nature embraces immortality or that c/ empirical logic necessarily clouds the mind? Keats is very persuasive about the poet as immortal, and it certainly worked for him, but to use poetry as others might a charitable trust, seems to me fraught with dangers, particularly of failure. Write for the sake of writing and the joy it gives you, not for others - not to condemn them or to be called great by them.

Sorry for being on such a Wednesday afternoon rant! You have a great turn of phrase but those sort of ideas tend to excite me - which is why Keats interests me. :?
