To the Boys

if I could go back to when you were being made—
that most divine of distillation

I’d have drunk more water.
siphoned through your thread like veins
a torrent sluice, sea supply
of emotion

I’d have eaten more apples.
funneled tart quarter bits
of my deserved pain—
revealed to you
the wonder of all women
fallen

I’d have nipped a bit more wine.
if not to tint rosily
that one downy milk tooth

but to allow a holier fermentation
to begin
a natal fancy and faith
that you’re molded into better fathers—

even better men.

If we take William Blake's noted first principle which is the quality of all true poets:

"One Faculty makes the Poet: Imagination, The Divine Vision"
(Annotations to Wordsworth)

then I regard this as True Poetry. A+!!!!!!!

Thank you a million times, HH. Your praise is overwhelmingly kind.

Not at all Denise, your work is sublime...

I quote the bard - he saith:

"...here's three on's are sophisticated! thou art the thing itself".
