Cornucopia

Cornucopia

The horn of plenty has poured
its bounty, abundantly washed
its goodness over me now.
After a lifetime of fallow, hard
dirt scratched subsistence
life has suddenly born fruit,
and where once was desert
is now a mysterious oasis,
a foothold of hope, small
tent peg precariously hung
in the sheer face of mount
Purgatory that I've scaled
for many years, a penitent
without a prayer has now
been saved, or reprieved.

A last minute pardon
has been granted to me
in the middle part of life.
Once crawling, I stand.
Once blind, I now see.
Once dumb, I cry loud.
Once empty, I'm full.

I feel the cornucopia
spilling its wealth,
it comes in waves
and cleanses the
wounds I thought
would never heal.

Nice...beautiful opening metaphor, Stephen--I love these lines:

After a lifetime of fallow, hard
dirt scratched subsistence
life has suddenly born fruit,
and where once was desert
is now a mysterious oasis,
a foothold of hope, small
tent peg precariously hung
in the sheer face of mount
Purgatory that I've scaled
for many years, a penitent
without a prayer has now
been saved, or reprieved.

Vivid, stark, yet rolls off the tongue so nicely...Another great one...
