In honour of Burns Night

Raise high a wee dram for Rabbie,
In honour of the sweet bard Burns.
Like Cincinnatus from the plow
Thou wert called, but a peaceful
Muse, not Mars thy seducer was.

Called from the field, thy country
Beseeched a poesy of its very own.
Native numbers of highlands bred,
Rough hewn but sweet to th'ear:
Thistle tree, with a rosebush plaid.

Raise high a wee dram for Rabbie,
In honour of the sweet bard Burns.
Fair Alba's pride, poet o' the glen,
May'st thy song be sung with lips
Whet in thy praise this cold night.
_______________
"Oh what a misery it is to have an intellect in splints".
