Too young to die

Postby zebluepenguin » Tue Aug 25, 2009 12:58 pm

I woke up from bed one night, clammy and cold
And saw Death standing by my bed,
mask-like and compassionless
with an evil grin
etched upon its face.
I sucked in a breath
and whispered, eyes closed tight,
not bearing to see the grinning skull
"Have you come for me? If you had, you better go back
Because I am too young to die."
"Life fades, and so do you." It rasped.
"I am too young to die. There are things I want to accomplish, and hopes I want to achieve."
"Everyone dies. There is no choice."
"I am too young to die. I want to have love, there is people in my heart that I cannot let go, and I want to love. Please go back."
Death reached out with a rotting hand
and grasped my arm
I looked up then
and i saw
a face so chiselled and gnawed
two eyes filled with compassion, regret and love
and the smile that lit his face was fatherly and warm
"Too young to die," I whispered.
And like a sudden breeze he was gone
I woke as if from a dream, clammy and cold.
" Heard melodies are sweet. But those unheard are sweeter." -Keats

I really enjoyed this excerpt. Personified death is always intriguing to me. Thanks for sharing!
"Let me not wander in a barren dream,
But, when I am consumed in the fire,
Give me new Phoenix wings to fly at my desire."
