The bridge across the estuary trembles
with the trains, the reflection of the views
from the hotel window are still as clear
as the chilled bottle of shared chardonnay.

You came from Japan with binoculars,
camera, a love of this land. The remains
of your hand rolled cigarettes were teeming
over the ashtray like stubbed squashed maggots.

A short stroll through the pine trees, leads to a
silent expanse of sand, the distant sea a
ribbon of sequins, reached by walking barefoot
through the arthritic fingers of samphire.

Shells and pebbles collected lie shipwrecked,
washed ashore upon a Tokyo bathroom
shelf, miles and miles from home. Hold them, you can
still feel their song burning deep to the core.

I like the feel of nature in this poem. I can smell the trees, the water. Good stuff!
"Let me not wander in a barren dream,
But, when I am consumed in the fire,
Give me new Phoenix wings to fly at my desire."
