I just did this to test the waters, so to speak. I'm not sure I quite get across the point that I'm meaning to, but. . .

A Note on Fundamentalism
I often wonder if my memories are real,
Or if they are a motley cut-and-paste
Version of scenes from other lives
Better and more exciting than mine—
Two socks that don’t match, or
That one regular French fry that always manages
To get mixed in with the curly ones.
I think on it as the question of Moses
Sending plagues of death and parting the waters;
In a world of words like “epidemiology”
And “tectonic plates,”
Do I believe?
. . . Manna in the fields,
Manna in the soul. . .
. . . Act of nature,
Act of God. . .
Then I say to myself,
“That regular fry is just as good
As the curly ones, isn’t it?
They both come from the same potato.”
