A .lament on the loss of innocence - not prudity mind you though.

Vestal flame.

Who now today tends the Vestal flame,
As Chastity’s mocked, virginity a shame?
Is love no more than a physical act
Or a simple, cold scientific fact?
Is it no more than attraction and lust,
Nor based on respect or mutual trust?

I'll have to temper what I think, I think.

Truly, though, where are all the virtuous ladies? Is that what you are asking?

Saturn, I agree that sex can (and should) be more than just a romp in the hay. . .it has the potential to be spiritual and transformative. I suspect you're putting men and women in the same light here? That both men and women should be virtuous? If so, I agree with that.

Yes, I agree, too. But can't a nice romp in the hay also be spiritual??

   8)

Yes I'm one of those rare species of men who are looking for love first, then sex if it felt right and we both felt the same.

I could never have a one-night stand that didn't mean anything.

I would have to totally trust and love that person to be that intimate with them.

A romp in the hay would be empty and unfulfilling. Of course I have carnal desires and lusts but those are animal instincts, base ones we should try and leash in - love can be a more long-lasting and potentially fulfilling experience.

I must sound like a terribly old-fashioned kind of guy but that's just how I feel.

I wouldn't throw stones or look down on someone who has multiple partners and one-night-stands etc, it's just not for me.

I don't know if I'm romantic, naive or just prudish...I don't know - I'm probably bummed I've never had any offers  .

I was born too late I suppose - I would have made a fine Victorian I suspect - all that outward decorum and gentlemanliness but with a pssionate heart underneath
