Poem: Is it love or is it lust?

Postby PaulW » Tue Feb 02, 2010 4:37 pm

Is it love or is it lust?

Is it love or is it lust
I will love you if I must,
Even when I've earned your trust,
Even when I’ve turned to dust.

I will travel far for you
is that next door or the stars,
at least as far as I can go,
where our hearts aren’t crossed by scars.

The contours of the grecian urn
lend you more that I might know,
all throughout the afternoon
I'm lost in you like doves in snow.

The thing to do is live in 'now',
the here - not 'there' where time might rule,
where thought bursts in, disturbs the view
of sense and almost senseless hue.

The ancient gods have had their say,
We listened fast, were keen to learn
And they will wake again one day,
As silhouettes they will return.

They taught us to believe that love
Can break the locks upon our doors
Might watch on us from high above
- Yet dwell in us for evermore.

A philosophical piece of work that made me conclude: if you still feel attracted when your lust is satisfied, then it's love. One of my favorite.
