How exciting! That's heaps for the link, Saturn!

Is it just me, or is the handwriting font used in some of these slides derived from Keats' handwriting? It just seems that some of the letters (the capital "K" for instance in his name) looks very much like his.

The website sadly doesn't offer much, and the few photos I've found concern my friends and I greatly that

a) Keats looks like a hipster who REALLY needs a shave,

b) Abbie Cornish is way too pretty for Fanny,

and c) when the hell ever did those two crazy kids get the chance to sneak off into the woods together?

Please, Hollywood...For ONCE, don't screw this up...

I share your concerns, but this is most definitely not a 'Hollywood' film, have you ever seen any of Jane Campion's films?

I'm firmly reserving judgement until I see the finished article.

Oh, I know, she's definitely a step up from the average film bastardizations of all that was originally good about a life or book. But I'm still worried.

I'm getting used to the idea of Whishaw, though. He's pleasant to look at.... :)

I'm much more won over by Keats' charms, but I figure some kind of osmosis will make me love Ben when the movie comes out, so I might as well get accustomed to the idea now. :)

Oooo oooo oooo, y'all! Update to the official site! Jane Campion now has some of her own production photos, and a few of them are gorgeous, particularly the first one of Fanny and the third (very dark and moody) of our man of the hour.

I also have the book that Abby is reading from in the sixth photo. ;)

I have been tracking Campion's work on this film for quite a while. I am really excited to see it actually come to pass. I understand that it will be out this spring. With production schedules as they are, I tend to think it will be later. Sure hope that Campion does a great service to Mr. Keats. I wonder and I worry... :)

BTW - I appreciate your website. Thanks :!:

Of course they are going to screw it up- that doesnt mean it won't be a good movie, but I doubt it will shed light on Keats the poet. Let's review

1) Campion is famous for making women the center of her movies

2) Keats was not thin and wispy (that was Shelley), he was short and broad shouldered, and, by all accounts, good at fisticuffs when he needed to be.

3) the truth about the relationship between Fanny and Keats is too complicated to portray accurately. Certainly Fanny was not as "deep" as Keats but who was? Did Keats feel a mature love for Fanny? He was never comfortable around women anyway, and it would seem that his love for her was rather obsessive. His letters to her are overdone- someone who is trying too hard. The bottom line is that Keats was much more comfortable with love as an imaginative reality rather than an experience.

4) Who was Fanny? A tart, a socialite, or just a woman with a nice personality and average looks? After Keats died she wrote some heartfelt things to Keats sister about that loss, but beyond that little is said by her. She kept Keats letters secret from her husband and her kids cashed in when the letters were revealed and auctioned. Did she keep them as remembrances, for their literary importance, or as largess for herself and her kids? Who knows. Fanny, as she aged, was said to become matronly. How would Keats have dealt with aging; particularly the aging of the mythic "fatal woman" who will not stay young? How would the poet of "La Belle Dame" dealt with a real relationship with a woman over a long stretch? Keats himself stated that he never wanted to marry. How would a poet who seemed to spend his life in pursuit of mythic Goddess material have lived with a real woman?

Keats poetry has still not been plumbed to its depths. It is dense, beautiful, dark, mortal and immortal.

Your thoughts?
