Was just poking around for any new movie stuff and came across a little blogging about it that might be of interest, especially with regards to Jane Campion as a biopic director: http://filmexperience.blogspot.com/2009/02/we-cant-wait-5-bright-star.html

A few days ago I was looking around the web for anything on when this picture (Bright Star) is coming out. I have yet to find anything definite - except a few nebulous statements that it will appear sometime in 2009. Sure would like to know more info. If anybody knows more details - fill me in. Thanks! :)

There are precious few details: most of them are in this thread.
We are all like a dog on a leash chomping at the bit for information.

It's frustrating, I know.

I'm not sure how much longer I can practice patience before it runs out. . .I've been anxiously awaiting this movie ever since you first reported on it, Saturn. And that was in 2006, wasn't it!

To be honest, I figure we've been waiting such a long time for this that it's no bother to wait a little longer, especially KNOWING that it's happening rather than merely hoping.

Poking around the web as I often do, I stumbled upon an online portfolio for Amy Merry, a graphic designer for Bright Star. She's got some beautiful pictures posted there of some of her design work for the film that gives us a very tantalizing picture of the visual feast that we're in for. Check it out here:

The pages are a bit slow to load, but the patience is worth it!

Thanks for the excellent pictures, Credo! I also was trolling the web (well, trolling my bookmarks at any rate!) and found that the Bright Star website has *finally* been updated! Quite a few more updates have been added, actually. I'm becoming more and more excited about this movie. The attention to period details is apparent. Awesome.

IMDB has given us two release dates for the film:

Australia 25 June 2009
Germany 8 October 2009

Please tell me the UK and US dates will be earlier than October!

Please tell me it will even be released in the US at all . . .
I really don't want to have to wait another year for it to come out on DVD. I am happy to learn that it will be 2 hours long! Two full hours of Keats's world (well, Fanny B's, actually--but Keats is very much a part of it!) it is almost too much to believe. *sigh*

What's up with a release date for Germany of all places (no offense, Germany) before even the UK? But hey, if it's getting released somewhere in June, it must be about done! That means that with any luck, we might be starting to see more production photos or even a trailer at some point in the near future.

And don't worry, Malia, I'm sure it will be released in the States in some capacity, even if it's only limited. I for one will happily make the trek to one of the art house cinemas to see it if I have to.

OK Friends, for what it's worth, I ran across a site that states that the movie "Bright Star" is set for a release date of October 9, 2009. I copied the link if you are interested in seeing this: http://www.tribute.ca/movies/Bright+Star/19106

In case the link doesn't open I copied the pertinent information from the web site. See below:

Bright Star
release date: Friday October 9, 2009
genre: Drama
director: Jane Campion
studio: TVA Films
producer(s): Caroline Hewitt, Jan Chapman, Jane Campion
screenplay: Jane Campion
cast: Ben Whishaw, Abbie Cornish, Thomas Sangster, Paul Schneider, Kerry Fox, Samuel Roukin, Samuel Barnett

I got this from tribute.ca

I am not sure if this is the US Release date or not - I assume it is from the site. Anyway, October 9th seems to be the day. But it will be limited release according to the tribute.ca links I traced.

Hope this helps. Now I won't be able to get October 9 out of my head :)

I'm assuming the ".ca" is based in Canada? If so, that's probably good enough hint of a US release date as well.

A few new production stills!

Regardless of how this film turns out in the end, it looks gorgeous.
