Chokehold

Fingers still pressed,
Your grip as tight, a
Chokehold remains
And exasperation
Is an everyday pang.

Five years are gone,
Yet I still feel that
Impress of the vice
That held me tight;
Faint ghost bruises,

Sporadic outbreaks
Cover me entire. An
Inflammation burns
My rest to ashes; a
Coruscation from you.

The phoenix never
Had as many deaths
And rebirths in nests
As barren and bleak
As this waste of mine.

Wow, that's a hell of an anguished cry. Quite moving, actually. I remember talking to my brother,
not so long ago, about an old flame. He said, "So you still think about her after all these years."

The title speaks volumes.

Apart from my usual gripe about breaking on prepositions, I'd say this one is very effective.

Best
