Campion's 'Star' turn: Keats tale

CANNES -- Palme d'Or winner Jane Campion said she is prepping the romantic period drama "Bright Star" for Pathe U.K., the British-based production arm of France's Pathe Entertainment. The project, which Campion is writing, is a drama based on the three-year romance between 19th century poet John Keats and Fanny Brawne, which was cut short by Keats' untimely death at age 25. "I'm still in the process of writing it, and we don't know yet when we're going into production," she said Tuesday at the Australian Film Commission's 30th anniversary party in Cannes. OH. MY. GOD!!!!! Do you *know* how long I've been hoping this would happen?????? I hope they don't screw around and get a 45 year old to play Keats. That seems to be the trend in dramas based on him But considering what you've found, Saturn, I have a feeling that *won't* be the case!

Is there a way we can send words of support to help assure the film is picked up and actually produced?? (Is it certain that it will actually be made?)

All I know is what it says in that article but like you I've hoped and prayed [well I don't actually pray but anyway] for a good movie about Keats.

Jane Campion is an assured director of integrity - I'm sure this will be extraordinary whatever happens.

This is amazing, I nearly spat my tea out over the my computer when I read this!
I would say Samuel West for Keats. He doesn't look like Keats, but I really admire him and think he'd do a great job. He is too old (but not 45!) but has a young-looking face, so this wouldn't be a problem.

Yes...a petition of sorts, Malia...to make sure this production gets off the ground--they'll need help--research, correct facts--oh, I guess they'll get that from all the Harvard Keats scholars (Harvard has the most) but we could help...between all of us we could write the screenplay!! An accurate screenplay, at that! Besides, this is a grave technicality, but really and truly they didn't have a solid three year romance--you know, they met in the fall of 1818, yes--but he didn't really become smitten (smitten in terms of Keats's trademark "purple riot" of passions abounding) until a bit later--ok, stop me. I'm babbling in a "struck dumb" state...
