Homage to Saturn

Postby Despondence » Mon Jul 31, 2006 6:14 am

Here is my homage, not to Keats, but to one of his greatest ministers of our time, on this Earth -- Saturn, our forum administrator (in absentia). Forgive me if this is inappropriate; I only wished to offer some token of recognition, for all his hard work with this forum through the years.

Saturn's reading of "On First Looking Into Chapman's Homer" is one of my absolute favorites, and in one rare lucid moment I couldn't help myself but put some music to it:

Chapman's Homer (reading by Saturn, with music)

I'm afraid the music in no way does justice to the poem or the reading, but nevertheless, for what it's worth. Feel free to use this thread if you would like to add your own thoughts about or tributes to our forum administrator Saturn, aka Stephen, while he is marching through troubled times on a soul-searching journey.

[Edit: sorry if I confused things; I posted this in the "Where's the Poet?" section rather than "Miscellanous" because I thought it was about original expression, and maybe some poetry might get added to the thread..]

A lovely tribute, Despondence. I agree that Saturn's reading is wonderful: very honest and heartfelt, just like Saturn himself. It is nice to know that even if Saturn must be away from us, we'll still have a little bit of him and his love of Keats here, both in his readings and old forum posts.

Thanks, Despondence, for setting this thread up.

I'm still bastardly upset over his leaving.

I'm trying to temper it--to no avail. I idiotically emailed a beseechingly ridiculous plea to him--but I, too, have to let go.

We and the forum will miss him indeterminately.

...and so it is.

Here is a re-post of a poem I wrote a month or two ago and it was inspired by none other than Saturn/Stephen himself.

Saturn’s Girl

Watching you from the icy shanks
I see sharply from here through
The sleeted hollows.

You are mighty and arresting,
Lemon-amber, orbed,
Pivoting, weightless,
With a white hot
Trace
Of fire flow.

In the ring
I escort
The dusty spokes
And force the floes
Along the arena gorge.

I’m your shepherding
Satellite,
Far below the station
Of your many moons,
Sitting and waiting
For the thunder show.

I'm overwhelmed

You're making me cry people.

Was I overhasty in my decision?

:(

Yes, I don't visit the site as often as some of you but I like reading what Saturn has to say. You may have your reasons to step down, whether others will agree or not, and that's fine there your reasons but do not stop posting I would would be insult'd if you do.
Why don't you really tell me how you feel!
