Inside

She swims inside.
So much to do today; the scent of static cling sheets—
citrus melon—for a second,
Makes it go away.

She’ll get by.
With a kiss, a drink, a lie.
Lock the doors and flick the kitchen light.
Set the coffee maker to boil
In the middle of the night.
It drips into the white donut cream of day,
A glazed routine,
She has her mother’s hips, she sees
Them in the front mirrored panel of the Kenmore machine.
Tidy up the mud room and start the soup.

He’ll make it alright.
It’ll be ok.
One thought of dying a rapid fire death
Is not a reason to cry away
A shiny Sunday afternoon,
Besides, he’ll be home soon.

Tender breasts and printed curves
Shield the lucid beat of one small heart,
Murderously picked apart—
The swallows flitting by;
They fly so high, so appallingly high.

She will spread her skinned wings,
The barbs and down, like locked gaping jaws
Open wide.

It will be, at best,
A fleeting joy,
Save for him who simply smiles
And swims inside.

You don't have to.

It's a chick poem anyway...

Well, thanks, AD. I can't tell how you feel about it, though...

Black Puss began milkpounding half way through Boulevard on the second reading. I trip up on 'Cooling units buzz...Above, is that you or me?

Thank you?

Richard, are you speaking of Boulevard? I worried it was a bit nebulous...but when I finished it--it was just...done.

In fact I'm sure I felt the rushing air of skinned wings, (some imagination eh) so immediate are the words.
In England 'Princess Prolific' is a term of affection :)
Richard

In America, prize idiot is a term for unwitting folks such as yours truly...

Thank you graciously for your kind critique, Richard...

Poetry is oxygen to me...someone told me over the weekend that it's simply a dead art. She almost guffawed when I looked surprised... :(

You can't? I was expressing the emotions I experienced while reading your work. The :?: indicates it took me a couple tries to understand all of what you were conveying. I had to stop reading and instead SEE your images.

A delicate work of art, Denise!

You're too kind...I'm happy you like it. It's a small departure for me...

You have quite a gift for imagery... Stunning... Yes, stunning is the word I want. Bravo. I can see that you would drown without poetry, so please keep swimming. You do so well.
